Flora App Design

Plant Organization App

Flora is an app designed for gardeners and plant parents who need some help organizing all of their plants. The idea is that any experience level could use this app due to its ability to be personalized for each individual. I collaborated with three other designers to create this app and its branding.

We wanted the app to be friendly and approachable. The pastel color palette is light on the eyes and mimics a lot of the colors plant owners would come across in real life. For example, blue for water, brown for soil, green for plants, and yellow for the sun. We utilize this visual identity throughout the app to help organize elements by color, as well as, organize through different illustrations.

Brandon Grotesque and Archer play well together as they are both playful, but don’t clash with one another. Brandon Grotesque was used for display and titles, while Archer was primarily used for body copy and smaller captions.

Key Features

Water Schedule

Each plant has its own page where the user can set a watering schedule, repotting schedule, and fertilization schedule. The watering schedule is the most useful due to it being the most frequent need for plants. Whenever the app notices it’s time to water the plant, it will appear as a task on the home page ensuring the user never misses a watering day.

Identify Plants and Diseases

Sometimes a friend gives you a random plant or you’ll notice something weird going on with a plant you already own. Instead of having to search for hours online, all the user has to do is point their camera at the plant in question and the app will identify what it is, as well as, any diseases it may detect. Once identified, the app will link you to appropriate articles to help the user take care of the issue.

Build a Garden

Deciding which plants to put together can be difficult, which is why we included a Garden Builder feature. The user can put plants together in the app and have it tell them if those plants would grow well together or not. This creates a simple solution to a problem that often requires a lot of research.

Research Plant Topics

Any plant topic you can think of is featured on this app. We organized it so that users can browse by plant, garden, disease, and the app will even recommend articles based on the plants in their garden. If nothing is answering your question, there is a feature where people can talk with a specialist one on one about the issue that they are having. This is a paid feature.
